Riverdale, F is for Family, and Bewitched!

It will be another multiple post dayI really should start posting more than once a week!

-Courtney Love will be joining the cast of Fox’s midseason drama Empire in a recurring guest star role. She will play Elle Dallas, “a hard rock powerhouse, who is part of Empire Entertainment’s stable of artists.”

-James Corden will take over The Late Late Show on CBS on March 9, 2015 but apparently a rotating roster of guest hosts will take over the show until then. Craig Ferguson will leave the show in December. No word on who the guests will be yet.

-Greg Berlanti (executive producer of ArrowThe Flash) is bringing the beloved Archie comics to the small screen. Riverdale, a drama based on the characters from the Archie comics has landed at Fox with a script deal plus penalty.

-Cody Simpson (Australian pop star, teen idol) is joining the cast of Cougar Town for its sixth and final season airing in early 2015, for one episode. In the episode, Simpson will play Pete, a high school student who bears a very strong resemblance to Grayson (Josh Hopkins) in both looks and behavior.

-Netflix has greenlighted F is For Family, a six-episode animated series based on the comedy of Bill Burr. The family comedy will debut in 2015. The show follows the Murphy family in the 1970s–“a time when you could smack your kid, smoke inside, and bring a gun to the airport.” Burr will voice Frank Murphy, the family’s extreme patriarch; Laura Dern will voice Frank’s wife, Sue, and Justin Long will voice the family’s oldest son, Kevin.

Gotham has cast Morena Baccarin as Dr. Leslie Tompkins, “a gifted and dedicated physician who was a friend of Thomas and Martha Wayne. She is determined to use her skills to aid Gotham’s most in need, which currently means working at the newly opened Arkham Asylum’s House for the Criminally Insane.” The character is from the original comics. She is expected to be a recurring role this season and a series regular in a presumed season 2.

-Showtime has found a replacement for Phillip Seymour Hoffman in Happyish, Steve Coogan will now play Thom Payne. It will now go back to the pilot stage and production will begin in New York. No word on if anyone from the original cast (Rhys Ifans, Kathryn Hahn) will return. The show is a dark examination of the pursuit of happiness.

-Amanda Righetti (The Mentalist) has been cast opposite Josh Holloway and Sarah Wayne Callies in Colony, USA Network’s family drama/thriller pilot about life in Los Angeles after a mysterious “foreign” occupation. Righetti will play Madeline, younger sister of Katie (Callies) and the mother of a diabetic child in need of insulin.

Bates Motel has cast Kevin Rahm (Mad Men) for a recurring role during season 3. He will play Bob Paris, the wealthy, self-involved and gregarious owner of an elite hunting club who grew up with Sheriff Alex Romero (Nestor Carbonell). The pair now have a strained relationship, but they keep their mutual dislike under wraps. Bates Motel returns March 2015.

-The Bewitched follow up series has landed at NBC with a pilot production commitment. The new version is a reimagining of the original series two generation later. It centers on Daphne–Samantha’s granddaughter and Tabitha’s daughter– a single twenty-something witch who has always used her magical powers to conjure herself the perfect life. But she soon realizes that the one thing she cannot conjure and control is the one thing she wants most– real love.

Friends, Self Promotion, and HBO Standalone Service

-Katy Perry will be performing during the Super Bowl XLIX Halftime show. The Super Bowl will be broadcast on Sunday, February 1 on NBC.

-Alexandra Krosney (Last Man Standing) has been cast as the lead in MTV’s dark comedy pilot Self Promotion, that will be directed by Zach Braff. The show centers on an overworked assistant Katie Preston (Krosney) who discovers that her dragon lady boss is missing. Things get messy fast, with Katie, believing she’ll be the prime suspect, covering up the crime scene. She starts calling the shots in her boss’s “absence,” and goes full CSI to find out what actually happened and exonerate herself.

-Tom Hanks and Tim Allen will reprise their roles in Toy Story for an ABC holiday special. ABC will be airing Toy Story That Time Forgot on Tuesday, December 2 at 8pm ET on ABC. The gang will gather after a post-Christmas play date and they find themselves facing off against a group of action figures who turn out to be “dangerously delusional.” The gang will need the help of Trixie the triceratops if they ever hope to go back to Bonnie’s room. The whole gang will be back for the special.

-A Guardians of the Galaxy animated series has been announced at New York Comic-Con. The series will debut in 2015 on Disney XD, but fans can get a sneak peek at the artwork and test footage now.

-HBO is set to launch a standalone service in 2015, which is described as an over-the-top HBO Go. I have no idea how much it will cost or when it will be released.

-All 10 season of Friends will be available on Netflix on January 1, 2015.

-Neil Patrick Harris is set to host the 2015 Oscars, which will take place on February 22, 2015 on ABC. I’m really hoping there is a musical number (or two).

Frank Langella (Frost/Nixon, Good Night and Good Luck) is joining FX’s The Americans during the third season as Gabriel, the former KGB handler for Philip (Matthew Rhys) and Elizabeth (Keri Russell). Gabriel comes out of retirement to resume oversight of those two operatives, taking over from the previous handler Claudia (Margo Martindale).
