Hell on Wheels, The Good Wife, and Community

-AMC has announced that Hell on Wheels will be returning for a fifth and final season consisting of 14 episodes. Community has hired Paget Brewster (Criminal Minds) and Keith David (Enlisted) to join the comedy full time for season 6. Brewster will play Francesca “Frankie” Dart, a consultant hired to help shape things up at the underachieving school. David will play Elroy Patashnik, a retired scientist who comes to Greendale to reinvent himself. -CBS has bought a new drama from Justified producer Ingrid Escajeda. “In a suburban Texas country already on the verge of chaos, the cold-blooded assassination of the district attorney means the ascension of Gaby Ortiz, a formidable young prosecutor. -Chris Elliot (How I Met Your Mother, Everybody Loves Raymond) will guest star on The Good Wife as an English professor who is brought in to help wannabe State’s Attorney Alicia prepare for her looming debate against opponent Frank Prady (David Hyde Pierce). -Starz has ordered a follow-up series to the cult “Evil Dead” film franchise, titled Ash vs. Evil Dead. Bruce Campbell will reprise his role as Ash. The series will be about “when a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons–personal and literal. -Constance Zimmer will star in Lifetime’s new series Un-Real which focuses on the behind-the-scenes look of the chaos surrounding a competition dating reality series. She will star as the dispassionate executive producer, replacing Magyn Price (who played the role in the pilot). As of now, there are only 10 episodes so far. The series focuses on Rachel (Shiri Appleby), “a young staffer whose sole job is to manipulate her relationships with and among the contestants to get the vital dramatic and outrageous footage the program’s executive producer demands.” The show should air later in 2014. http://www.deadline.com/2014/06/constance-zimmer-star-lifetime-series-un-real/ 

-USA’s Benched has added Molly Shannon, Chris Parnell, and Yvette Nicole Brown to its growing list of guest stars. The show centers on Nina (Eliza Coupe), a dedicated, career-driven corporate attorney who has a public nervous breakdown after getting passed up for an expected promotion and finds herself working as a public defender. Shannon will play Judge Conner, a mature judge. -A new trailer for Netflix’s new original series BoJack Horseman has been released and its release date of all 12 episodes of the first season has been set for August 22. The animated series focuses on the equine BoJack (Will Arnett), a faded 1990s sitcom star living a depressing life of self-loathing, booze, and crummy relationships in an odd world where humans and animals interact as equals. He hangs out with his human friend, Todd Chavez (Aaron Paul) and talks to his ex-love lover and agent (who also happens to be a cat) the Purrfect Princess Carolyn (Amy Sedaris). -Showtime has added Laila Robbins and Corey Stoll has recurring characters on Homeland’s upcoming fourth season set for a premiere this fall. Robbins will play Martha Boyd, the U.S. Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, and Stoll will play Sandy Bachman, the CIA Chief of Station in Pakistan. They have also added Suraj Sharma as Aayan Ibrahim, a Pakistani medical student who crosses paths with Carrie Mathison. -Brian Van Holt will be joining Syfy’s Ascension. The series is about a starship secretly launched from Earth in the year 1963, sending hundreds of men, women, and children to populate a new world. Nearly 50 years into the journey, as they approach the point of no return, the mysterious murder of a young woman causes the ship’s population to question the true nature of their mission. -The cast of History’s Sons of Liberty has been revealed. -Darron Aronofsky is adapting the futuristic MaddAddam book trilogy, by Margaret Atwood, as an HBO series. The book/series is set in the mid-21st century in  a world where corporations have taken over for governments and the genetic modification of organisms is perversely ubiquitous. -AMC is adapting the novel The Son, by Phillip Meyer, into a drama series. -FXX has renewed It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia for two more seasons (Season 11 and 12) even though season 10 has yet to air. With the renewal, they also said there would be a straight-to-series order for Tracy Morgan’s new half-hour comedy series. Homeland has decided to begin production of their fourth season in Cape Town, south Africa. The new season will find Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) assigned to one of the most volatile and dangerous CIA stations in the Middle East where is back on the front lines in the war on terror. Production begins in mid-june and will shoot through November of this year. Suits has added DB Woodside and Brendan Hines for “major” season 4 arcs. Woodside will play Jeff Malone, a former SEC prosecutor who is a financial expert with a personal stake in Pearson Specter. Hines will play Logan Sandler, the son of a millionaire entrepreneur and isn’t used to hearing the word “no.” No word on the premiere date for season 4 since the third season is going on still. Suits airs Thursdays at 9/8c on USA.
