Arrested Development, Casting news, New shows, and more! (Post 1/2)

There are probably going to be two posts today because since I didn’t post last week there is a lot of news! 

-More Arrested Development is coming to Netflix! Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos said that another season is a sure thing, “it’s just a matter of when.” Scheduling issues are a big part of the issue right now because they are trying to figure out all the actors’ schedules, which means more scenes with the whole family together!

-Eddie McClintock (Warehouse 13) has joined Fox’s new show Backstrom. He will play Lieutenant Sam D’Agostino, a neighborhood bully who grew up with Rainn Wilson’s Backstrom. The show is currently slated to premiere midseason on Fox.

-David Spade (Saturday Night Live, Rules of Engagement) will be guest starring on an upcoming episode of The Goldbergs as a shifty guy who works at an old school ’80s photo shop faking IDs for local teenagers. The episode will be airing in the fall during the show’s second season on ABC.

-Ana Gasteyer (Saturday Night Live) will also be guest-starring on an episode of the upcoming season of The Goldbergs. She will play Miss Cinoman, a drama teacher (based on creator Adam F. Goldberg’s real-life high school drama teacher) who will clash with Beverly (Wendi McLendon-Covey). Season 2 of The Goldbergs premieres Wednesday, September 24 at 8:30/7:30c on ABC.

-Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey) has joined ABC’s Galavant as Peter the Pillager, a Pirate King who Galavant and Co. encounter on their journey.

-Natalie Zea (The Following) is set to star in ABC’s upcoming series Members Only about an upstairs/downstairs drama set at an exclusive Connecticut country club, centered on the club’s leisure-class members and the working-class employees. Zea will play the pedigreed, well-educated Mickey, the most together member of the club’s founding family. No idea when it will be air since they are still in pre-production.

-Teen Nick (and YTV in Canada) has started production on a new family mystery series Open Heart. It’s about Dylan Blake, the rebellious daughter of a fractured family of doctors who uses her stint as a youth hospital volunteer to secretly investigate the mysterious disappearance of her father. The cast was also announced and is in link!

Scream is coming to a TV near you! MTV has announced that Scream will be moving forward and will star Willa Fitzgerald (Alpha House, Royal Pains), Amy Forsyth (Reign), John Karna (The Neighbors), Carlson Young (Key and Peele), and Amadeus Serafini.

-SyFy is developing a new series based on the highly acclaimed sci-fi series Old Man’s War. The project will be titled Ghost Brigades. Check the link for a description of the show. The show is still in pre-production so I’ll give you a premiere date at a later date.

-Disney Channel has renewed Girl Meets World for a second season and production of the next season will begin in November.

The Biggest Loser cast for season 16 has come out! Check the link to read all about the new contestants. The Biggest Loser season 16 premieres September 11 at 8pm on NBC.

-Kate Burton (Scandal) will reprise her role as Dr. Ellis Grey on the upcoming season 11 premiere of Grey’s Anatomy. She is still dead but she will be back in flashbacks. Grey’s Anatomy returns on Thursday, September 25 at 8/7c on ABC.

-Rich Sommer (Mad Men) will be returning to Elementary and reprising his role as Harlan Emple, one of Sherlock’s “irregulars” on the upcoming third season of the show. Elementary returns Thursday, October 3 at 10/9c on CBS.

-Ryan MacNicol (Ally McBeal, Numb3rs) has been added as a series regular on the upcoming series CSI:Cyber. He will play Assistant Director Stavros Sifter, 40, a career FBI insider and supervisor of Special Agent Avery Ryan for the Cyber Crime Division in Washington, D.C. CBS is eyeing a midseason launch for the CSI spin-off.

-Season 3 of Nashville will air 2 groundbreaking music/TV firsts. The season premiere will feature two live performances from Will Lexington (“If It’s Love”) and Deacon Claybourne (“I Know How To Love You Now”) and they will actually be live. Fans on the east and central coasts will enjoy the first set and then for the west coast the Nashville stars will perform live for a second time. The live musical performances air during Nashville’s third season premiere on Wednesday, September 24 at 9pm on ABC.




Girl Meets World, Daytime Emmy nominations, and a new HBO show

-Disney channel has finally given a premiere date to the highly anticipated Girl Meets World as well as a full trailer. The new series will premiere Friday June 27, at 9:45/8:45c, right after the premiere of Zendaya’s new Disney Channel Original movie Zapped. You can find the full trailer and a description of Zapped in the link!

-The Daytime Emmy nominations were released today. A full nomination list is in the link. The 41st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards is set for June 22 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

-Ray Romano has joined Bobby Cannavale and Olivia Wilde in the HBO untitled rock ‘n’ roll drama set to film the pilot episode this summer. The drama is set in 1970s New York, and explores the drug-and sex-fueled music business as punk and disco were breaking out, all told through the eyes of a record executive trying to resurrect his label and find the next new sound. Romano will co-star as Zak Yankovich, the right-hand man to Richie (Cannavale) who plays the record executive.



Colbert moving to the Late Show, guest stars, and Girl Meets World teaser!

TONIGHT ON TV April 10, 2014:

  • Shark Tank (special time) airs at 8pm on ABC
  • Suits season finale at 9pm on USA
  • Under the Gunn season finale at 9pm on Lifetime

-Unless you haven’t listened, watched, or read any media today then you probably know that Stephen Colbert will be replacing David Letterman as the new host of The Late Show. CBS has made a 5-year deal with Colbert. No word on his premiere date yet but it will be announced after Letterman figures out when his final broadcast will be in 2015. The Colbert Report will be on for the next eight months before it ends.

The Simpsons are coming to cable TV in August on FXX. As a way to start it’s run on the network they are having a 12-day marathon of the 552 episodes (aka the entire series).

-Cobie Smulders will be returning to Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. She will appear in the episode set to air April 29 “Nothing Personal.” Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs Tuesdays at 8 pm on ABC.

-Chris Colfer will appear in an upcoming episode of Hot in Cleveland. His episode shoots next week. No idea when the episode will air however. Hot in Cleveland airs Wednesdays at 10/9c on TV Land.

-Starz has ordered its first unscripted series which will consist of 10 episodes. The Chair is a competition documentary series that will follow two directors through the process of bringing their first feature to the screen. The two up-and-coming directors are Shane Dawson and Anna Martemucci. They will have the same script, the same budget, and the same location. The audience will decide which director should win $250,000. It is set to premiere in fall 2014.

-The first teaser for the new series Girl Meets World has come out! Still no word on a premiere date, just sometime this summer. Check the link for the video!

David Letterman retiring, Girl Meets World, Narcos, HBO premiere dates and more!

SERIES FINALES, April 3 2014:

  • Once Upon a Time in Wonderland (Series finale, 8 pm, ABC)

-David Letterman is retiring! He is apparently retiring in 2015. He shared it during the taping of today’s show. So watch the announcement either in the link or tonight at 11:35 EST on CBS.

-Here is a first look at the cast of Disney’s new Girl Meets World. The show is set to premiere this summer.,,20802174,00.html


Astronaut Wives Club was supposed to have a July 24 premiere but production has now been put on hold. Hopefully there is a fall production start for a midseason 2014-2015 premiere. The show is undergoing creative changes.

-Fox is now going to air Rake’s last two episodes on Saturday April 5, instead of Fridays (which they were bumped to last month.) No word yet on the future of the show, but it’s not looking good.

-BBC has already renewed its upcoming series The Muskateers for a second season even though the first season doesn’t begin until June 22 9/8c.

-Netflix has given a 10-episode order to an new original series, Narcos. It’s a drama about druglord Pablo Escobar and the Medellin Cartel. It is supposed to debut in 2015.

-Michael Strahan (currently co-hosting Live with Kelly & Michael) is reported to be joining Good Morning America after Josh Elliot’s leave earlier this week and Amy Robach taking over that position. Strahan will be apparently keeping his Live with Kelly & Michael gig and only appearing occasionally on Good Morning America segments starting at 7 am at their Times Square studio.

-HBO has set some premiere dates:

  • The Leftovers will debut on Sunday June 15 at 10 pm (10 episode season. Following the season finale of Game of Thrones)
  • True Blood will debut on Sunday June 22, at 9 pm. (10-episode seventh and final season)


Masters of Sex, Glee, Girl Meets World, Gotham, Criminal Minds, and an April Fools Prank.

Private Practice star Caterina Scorsone will reprise her role as Amelia Shepard on Grey’s Anatomy. The first episode is supposed to air at the beginning of May and she will be a part of the rest of season 10. If you’d like to catch up on all the drama then the first 9 season of Grey’s Anatomy are on Netflix as well as all 6 seasons of Private Practice! Grey’s Anatomy airs Thursdays at 9/8c on ABC.

-Betsy Brandt is joining season 2 of Masters of Sex. She will be playing Barbara, Bill’s fifth secretary of the series. The second season begins production this spring for a fall premiere on Showtime.

-Chris Colfer (Kurt Hummel) is set to pen an upcoming episode of FOX’s Glee. He has already met with the show’s writing staff and put out some ideas but they are keeping the storyline for the episode under wraps for now. Glee airs Tuesdays 8/7c on FOX.

-ABC Family has renewed Melissa & Joey and Baby Daddy for fourth seasons. And it has also ordered three drama pilots. They are Alice in ArabiaRecovery Road, and Unstrung. The three descriptions of the shows are in the link.

-A new photo has been released from Disney Channel for their new show Girl Meets World and apparently Cory’s Parents and Shawn will be in a holiday episode! No word on the official premiere date but it will premiere sometime this year. I’ll let you know when there is a set date.


-FOX has officially begun shooting Gotham in New York City and there are some pictures from the set. Ben McKenzie (first photo) will be playing a young Detective Jim Gordon. While Robin Lord Taylor is playing Oswald Cobbleport, aka the Penguin, in the show. The new show is set to air for the 2014-2015 season.

-Drew Carey and Craig Ferguson will be switching host jobs on April Fools Day as a little prank. Drew Carey will be hosting the Late Late Show on CBS which airs at 12:37 am ET/PT and Ferguson will be hosting The Price is Right which airs on CBS at 11 am ET/10 am PT.

-Brian Baumgartner (best known for his role as Kevin Malone on the hit series The Office) will take a on a killer guest role on Criminal Minds. He will be in the upcoming episode “Fatal” which airs April 16. He is supposed to play a man who at an unexpected crossroads in his life goes on a killing spree. Criminal Minds airs Wednesdays on CBS at 9/8c.
