-Courtney Love will be joining the cast of Fox’s midseason drama Empire in a recurring guest star role. She will play Elle Dallas, “a hard rock powerhouse, who is part of Empire Entertainment’s stable of artists.” http://insidetv.ew.com/2014/10/23/courtney-love-drama/

-James Corden will take over The Late Late Show on CBS on March 9, 2015 but apparently a rotating roster of guest hosts will take over the show until then. -Greg Berlanti (executive producer of ArrowThe Flash) is bringing the beloved Archie comics to the small screen. Riverdale, a drama based on the characters from the Archie comics has landed at Fox with a script deal plus penalty. http://deadline.com/2014/10/archie-comics-series-riverdale-greg-berlanti-roberto-aguirre-sacasa-fox-858971/

-Cody Simpson (Australian pop star, teen idol) is joining the cast of Cougar Town for its sixth and final season airing in early 2015, for one episode. -Netflix has greenlighted F is For Family, a six-episode animated series based on the comedy of Bill Burr. The family comedy will debut in 2015. The show follows the Murphy family in the 1970s–“a time when you could smack your kid, smoke inside, and bring a gun to the airport.” Burr will voice Frank Murphy, the family’s extreme patriarch; Laura Dern will voice Frank’s wife, Sue, and Justin Long will voice the family’s oldest son, Kevin. http://deadline.com/2014/10/bill-burr-animated-series-vince-vaughn-netflix-857571/

Gotham has cast Morena Baccarin as Dr. Leslie Tompkins, “a gifted and dedicated physician who was a friend of Thomas and Martha Wayne. She is determined to use her skills to aid Gotham’s most in need, which currently means working at the newly opened Arkham Asylum’s House for the Criminally Insane.” The character is from the original comics. -Showtime has found a replacement for Phillip Seymour Hoffman in Happyish, Steve Coogan will now play Thom Payne. It will now go back to the pilot stage and production will begin in New York. No word on if anyone from the original cast (Rhys Ifans, Kathryn Hahn) will return. -Amanda Righetti (The Mentalist) has been cast opposite Josh Holloway and Sarah Wayne Callies in Colony, USA Network’s family drama/thriller pilot about life in Los Angeles after a mysterious “foreign” occupation. Bates Motel has cast Kevin Rahm (Mad Men) for a recurring role during season 3. He will play Bob Paris, the wealthy, self-involved and gregarious owner of an elite hunting club who grew up with Sheriff Alex Romero (Nestor Carbonell). -The Bewitched follow up series has landed at NBC with a pilot production commitment. The new version is a reimagining of the original series two generation later. It centers on Daphne–Samantha’s granddaughter and Tabitha’s daughter– a single twenty-something witch who has always used her magical powers to conjure herself the perfect life. Game of Thrones, Bates Motel, new Bravo shows, Doctor Who, and more!

TONIGHT ON TV April 8, 2014:

  • Justified (Season 5 finale, 10 pm, FX)

-HBO has renewed Game of Thrones for a fifth and sixth season one day after the fourth season premiere brought in a record breaking 6.6 million viewers which has only been topped by the series finale of The Sopranos in 2007. -A Battlestar Galactica movie is in the work. -Amy Jo Johnson will have a recurring role on the USA Network series Covert Affairs during the upcoming season 5. She will play Hayley, a National Counter Terrorism Center investigator who knows how to stand her ground and will go head-to head with Auggie (Christopher Gorham) when the intelligence community faces a united threat. -Enver Gjokaj will join Rizzoli & Isles for a multi-episode arc. -A&E has picked up Bates Motel for a third season after an impressive start of season 2. The third season will consist of 10 episodes and will begin production this fall. -NBC has ordered a six-episode series called Epic Funnies (tentative title). It will an hour-long variety clip show very similar to its competitor America’s Funniest Home Videos. CBS renewals, Key & Peele, Amazon series, and more!

-Comedy Central is developing an animated series based off the hit TV show Key & Peele. The fourth season of the show will consist of 22 episodes and premiere in the fall of 2014. -Amazon is set to premiere 4 series from the 10 pilots they looked at. Bates Motel: After Hours, Broad City, Pilot season, and more!

-A&E beginning March 3rd will host a Bates Motel: After Hours show, following the series premiere of Those Who Kill (and 1 hour after Bates Motel season 2 premiere.) A lot of the main characters will be there for the debut installment. -Comedy Central renewed Broad City for a second season. They haven’t announced a premiere date for the second season but the 10 new episodes could debut as early as this fall.
