Gwen Stefani joining The Voice, new Syfy shows, renewals from online sites, and so much more!

Lots of news today! Sorry for the long post. 

-Rosie O’Donnell will be returning to The Fosters. She will reprise her role as Rita Hendricks and will appear in two episodes this fall. The Fosters return June 16 at 9 pm on ABC Family for a second season. You catch the first season on Netflix!

Project Greenlight, the Ben Affleck and Matt Damon produced HBO filmmaking documentary series from 2001, is returning.

-Jay Ellis will be added to the cast of Showtime’s Masters of Sex during season 2. He will play Dr. Cyril Franklin, another M.D., who shares an office space with Michael Sheen’s Dr. William Masters. The second season begins July 13 at 10 pm ET/PT on Showtime.

-Gwen Stefani is joining The Voice as a new coach. She will join Pharrell Williams, Adam Levine, and Blake Shelton as coaches. Christina Aguilera said she will be coming back to the show during its eighth season. The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c on NBC.

Almost Human has been cancelled by FOX due to bad ratings and low viewers during its first season.

-Tricia Helfer will be starring in Syfy’s new upcoming six-hour event series Ascension. The premise of the show and more about it is in the link.

-Syfy has picked up adventure series Killjoys, which will premiere in 2015 and will consist of 10 episodes.. It follows a “fun-loving, hard living trio of interplanetary bounty hunters sworn to remain impartial as they chase deadly warrants troughout the Quad, a distant system on the brink of a bloody, multiplanetary class war.”

-Crackle has unveiled three new series. It has also renewed Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee for 24 more episodes, which will take it through season 9 (including season 5 & 6 that were renewed earlier). More shows and better descriptions are in the link. 

  •  Tightrope: It will replace a character from a classic detective series with a modern-day actor to reshape the stories into contemporary comedy
  • Sports Jeopardy!: A sports-themed version of the popular Jeopardy game show
  • Sequestered: A 12-episode series about a jury that’s sequestered in a hotel while deliberating a court case with massive implications.
  • The Throwaways (feature film): A suspenseful thriller about a notorious hacker captured y the CIA who is given a proposition to work for them or spend the rest of his life in prison.

-Syfy has ordered a third Sharknado movie which will premiere sometime in 2015. The sequel premieres July 30.

-Zoe Jarman, who plays receptionist Betsy Putch, on Fox’s hit show The Mindy Project will not be returning for its third season. She has been asked to guest star so she may still be seen.

-Naya Rivera is reportedly cut from Glee and will be written out of the season 5 finale and ultimately season 6 (which is the last season). There have been reports that she “went off” on producers about multiple grievances, including Lea Michele. The season finale airs May 13 on Fox.

-Hulu has renewed Deadbeat for a second season as well as giving summer premiere dates for three more original returning series. East Los High (July 9), The Awesomes (August 4), and Quick Draw (August 7) . New reality spoof The Hotwives of Orlando will premiere July 15.

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire host Cedric the Entertainer will depart from the show after only one season as host. No one has been confirmed as the new host but Terry Crews is in talks for the gig.

Alice in Arabia axed and Last Comic Standing

-ABC Family is not going through with their new pilot Alice in Arabia anymore after complaints that it relied heavily on stereotypes of Muslims.

-NBC’s Last Comic Standing, which has been on a four year hiatus, has added some new judges to the eighth season premiering this summer, as well as a new host and new format. Roseanne Barr and Keenen Ivory Wayans will serve as celebrity judged on the new season. Russell Peters will join them as well. J.B. Smoove is the new host and Wanda Sykes will serve as an executive producer for the season. The season is consisting of 13 hour-long episodes. The new format includes invitation-only auditions consisting of 100 comedians who will be whittled down to 20. They will compete in semifinal rounds and the Top 10 will move into “challenge rounds” which will test the competitors even more. The new season premieres May 22 at 9 pm ET on NBC. .

Masters of Sex, Glee, Girl Meets World, Gotham, Criminal Minds, and an April Fools Prank.

Private Practice star Caterina Scorsone will reprise her role as Amelia Shepard on Grey’s Anatomy. The first episode is supposed to air at the beginning of May and she will be a part of the rest of season 10. If you’d like to catch up on all the drama then the first 9 season of Grey’s Anatomy are on Netflix as well as all 6 seasons of Private Practice! Grey’s Anatomy airs Thursdays at 9/8c on ABC.

-Betsy Brandt is joining season 2 of Masters of Sex. She will be playing Barbara, Bill’s fifth secretary of the series. The second season begins production this spring for a fall premiere on Showtime.

-Chris Colfer (Kurt Hummel) is set to pen an upcoming episode of FOX’s Glee. He has already met with the show’s writing staff and put out some ideas but they are keeping the storyline for the episode under wraps for now. Glee airs Tuesdays 8/7c on FOX.

-ABC Family has renewed Melissa & Joey and Baby Daddy for fourth seasons. And it has also ordered three drama pilots. They are Alice in ArabiaRecovery Road, and Unstrung. The three descriptions of the shows are in the link.

-A new photo has been released from Disney Channel for their new show Girl Meets World and apparently Cory’s Parents and Shawn will be in a holiday episode! No word on the official premiere date but it will premiere sometime this year. I’ll let you know when there is a set date.


-FOX has officially begun shooting Gotham in New York City and there are some pictures from the set. Ben McKenzie (first photo) will be playing a young Detective Jim Gordon. While Robin Lord Taylor is playing Oswald Cobbleport, aka the Penguin, in the show. The new show is set to air for the 2014-2015 season.

-Drew Carey and Craig Ferguson will be switching host jobs on April Fools Day as a little prank. Drew Carey will be hosting the Late Late Show on CBS which airs at 12:37 am ET/PT and Ferguson will be hosting The Price is Right which airs on CBS at 11 am ET/10 am PT.

-Brian Baumgartner (best known for his role as Kevin Malone on the hit series The Office) will take a on a killer guest role on Criminal Minds. He will be in the upcoming episode “Fatal” which airs April 16. He is supposed to play a man who at an unexpected crossroads in his life goes on a killing spree. Criminal Minds airs Wednesdays on CBS at 9/8c.

Raising Hope & ABC Family premieres

-FOX announced that the April 9, one hour long episode at 9pm, will be the series finale episode of Raising Hope. It will be split into 2 different episodes. There are 3 episodes before the final two.  The first 3 seasons (out of 4) are on Netflix if you’d like to catch up!

-ABC Family announced premiere dates of new shows and existing shows:

  • Chasing Life premieres Tuesday, June 10 9-10 pm  ET/PT (*new*)
  • Young & Hungry premieres Wednesday, June 25 8-8:30 pm ET/PT (*new*)
